OSM Shipping Phils. Inc. (OSMP) is now ISO 9001:2008 / MLC, 2006 Certified

Manila, Philippines –On 26 April 2012, OSMP marked another milestone in its 22 years history of being in the forefront of providing quality crewing services and crew
management solutions when the company successfully passed the ISO audit for the renewal of its ISO 9001:2008 Certification this time with applicable elements of Maritime Labor Convention 2006 (MLC, 2006). The scope of the audit includes: Provision of manpower to ship owners, ship managers and ship operators in accordance with the requirements of the International Labour Organisation’s Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006) as applicable to recruitment and placement services.

The good news was announced by Quality Management Representative Loren Mae M. Naquita after the successful ISO audit conducted by Mr. Edgar Leung of Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) from 23 – 26 April 2012. This is OSMP’s 10th year of being an ISO certified company, reflecting the company’s continued efforts to maintain good management practices, quality processes and customer-focused service delivery systems. Securing the ISO 9001:2008 / MLC 2006 is a sign to its clients that the company truly adheres to quality standards and world-class processes.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a non-governmental organization and the world’s largest developer and overseer of international business standards.ISO- 9001:2008 is a set of standards and requirements for the development of a quality management system applied by private corporations and organizations to ensure that the needs and expectations of customers or clients are adequately and consistently met. The standards also enable organizations to develop mechanisms for continual improvement of performance, services and produce.

President / General Manager Alexander G. Abilo expressed joy over the ISO-9001:2008 renewal certification conferment assuring all future and current customers of OSMP’s dedication to consistently provide crew manning solutions of utmost excellence, as well as to continually improve those solutions to meet and exceed every customer’s requirements.

Spiritual foundation a boost to efficiency on board

The management of OSM Shipping Phils., Inc. under the stewardship of its President and General Manager, Capt. Alex G. Abilo with his wife, Mrs. Rose L. Abilo and with the wholehearted support of all the staff of the company established the Light of the World Prayer Community with the vision of creating a community of renewed catholic individuals, seafarers, and their families devoted to the Blessed Mother Mary and actively living in the light of the Gospel of Christ, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Catholic Church. It is the company’s mission through the prayer community to evangelize, strengthen and equip individuals, seafarers and their families as agents of the gospel through the Word of God, the Eucharist and devotion to the Blessed Mother.

The flame of the prayer community’s first Life in the Spirit Seminar held on 29 April 2000 is still burning today. The prayer community continually conduct a quarterly Life in the Spirit Seminar for its new employees / crew and their families and spearheads a two (2) hours weekly prayer meeting attended by all OSMP staff, crew members on vacation and their families and cadets that aims to reinforce the spiritual foundation especially of its crew onboard vessels.

This spiritual nourishment program of the company has greatly contributed to the crew members’ behaviors and attitudes. Harmony and good interpersonal relationships onboard OSMP manned vessels exist and the performance of crew onboard greatly improved with no involvement on accidents reported.
